Cena luxuriosa: pars picturae muralis in exonartheci Monasterii Batopedii anno 1312 confectae. Depinguntur Mongoli et Romani, inter quos Andronici minister Theodorus Metochites;[1] an de matrimonio Mariae disputatur?


Maria, quae saeculo XIII exeunte nata est et (si vita recte e fontibus intellegitur) post annum 1341 mortua est, fuit Andronici II Palaeologi filia notha. A patre in matrimonium Tuctai regi Ordae Aureae saeculo XIV ineunte data nomen Turcicum Bayalün accepit. Qui anno 1312 mortuo Maria statim a successore Usbeco inter uxores acceptam esse censetur. Haec, si re vera eadem sit, a peregrinatore Ibn Baṭṭūṭa describitur. Ille cum principissa ad Constantinopolim anno fere 1332/1334 se profectum esse praetendit. Quidam autem uxorem Usbeci filiam notham Andronici III fuisse credunt.
